Beginning Stained Glass - Copper Foil

Learn the traditional art of stained glass in this entertaining and rewarding class.  Build your very own stained glass panel while learning how to cut and shape glass then assemble your art piece in the copper foil and solder technique.  You will select your project from a choice of seven beginner patterns.  Please be warned—you may have so much fun in this class and be left with an overwhelming urge to create more and more!  

 

3 sessions, 3 hours ea.  Cost: $195.00 and includes: use of tools, supplies and all materials for your project.  Prerequisites: None.  Students may take this class only once.  

 

Beginning Stained Glass —Lead Came

Improve your skills as you are guided through the traditional method of stained glass making using lead came.  You will learn glass cutting and shaping, project assembly, soldering and final clean up—all while building your very own stained glass panel.  Students select a simple project from a choice of four beginner patterns. This is a fun and exciting class for those students who want to learn how stained glass was originally constructed.

3 sessions, 3 hours ea.  Cost: $195.00 and includes: use of tools, supplies and all materials for your project. Prerequisite: Stained Glass Quick and Easy - Foil Method.   Students may take this class only once.

Intermediate Stained Glass:  Copper Foil or Lead Came

If you are ready to take your stained glass to the next level, then this class is for you. After completing the Stained Glass Quick and Easy class many students are eager to get going on a more impressive work to challenge and refine their stained glass skills. In this class you will draw the cartoon and build a stained glass window that will be at least 3 to 4 square feet in size.  Detailed instruction will be reviewed on reinforcement as needed.

An 8 week course designed to help students improve and master the skills learned in the Stained Glass Quick and Easy class, students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of skills including but not limited to: learning to build a 3-dimensional project (like a lamp); learning to draw your own pattern; learning to fit a pattern to a set opening; adding fused glass pieces to your design; incorporating bevel clusters into your design; lead came; etc.

 

Cost is $295 and includes your tool kit. Subsequent sessions at this level cost $195.00.  Pre-requisite for Copper Foil Class is Stained Glass Quick and Easy Copper Foil; Pre-requisite for Lead Came Class is Stained Glass Quick and Easy Copper Foil and Lead Came.

Introduction to Panel Lampshades

After students have completed an intermediate level stained glass class many decide to challenge themselves with making a stained glass lampshade.  This class will cover the popular flat-panel lamp process.  Students can choose from 4 or 6 sided panel lamp patterns.  

24 hours of instruction time  Cost: $225.00 – Students must have their own tools.  Prerequisite: Stained Glass--Quick and Easy (Foil method) and Intermediate Stained Glass: Copper Foil.

Advanced Stained Glass Window Fabrication – In Foil or Lead

 This class is for experienced artisan only who is ready, willing and able to take on a major window project. If you have been thinking about creating an entry door panel or an entire entryway ensemble (door, sidelights, transom), a stairway or landing panel, or perhaps a small window for your church, synagogue or place of worship -- this is the class for you.  Your first session will be a private consultation with the instructor to discuss your project idea for size, design, and fabrication style.  You may also discuss installation style and issues.   You should plan on spending a minimum of 3 hours for this consultation session.  Additional class sessions will be booked with the instructor/studio as needed by the student.  Students should be prepared to work at home or book additional studio time between class sessions in order to complete a more ambitious project.

 

Note: Storage space for larger projects may be limited.  Project selection requires a consultation with the instructor prior to starting the class to ensure that you have the skills and resolve to complete your desired project.  Students should be prepared to work at home between classes or purchase additional studio time to work between classes to complete a more ambitious project, please speak to the instructor about this option.

ADDITIONAL ADVANCED STAINED GLASS CLASSES

Advanced Stained Glass - Incorporating Fused Glass

Have you always been intrigued by fused glass but consider yourself to be a stained glass artist.  Well here is your chance to try it out and see how fusing works.  Students will design an original stained glass pattern of 100 pieces or more that incorporates fused glass pieces which will also designed and made up class. Students will schedule an individual consultation with the instructor to discuss project design, size and fabrication style.  Students should expect to spend a minimum of three hours of instructional time on this consultation.  Students should plan to spend time working on their project at home or schedule additional studio time between class meetings to complete a more ambitious project.  Projects may be flat panels or 3 dimensional projects.  

24 hours of instructional time:  Cost: $225.00- Students must have their own hand tools, supplies and glass.  Pre-requisite: Stained Glass Quick and Easy, an Intermediate Level Stained Glass class and Fusing and Forming - Quick and Easy.

 

Note: Project Storage may be limited by size.

 

Advanced Stained Glass - Glass Plating 

Glass Plating is a glass layering technique that has been used by stained glass artist like Tiffany to create a shadowing effect or a deepening of the color of the glass.  Using ready-made or original patterns, students will learn this challenging technique which adds dimension to your stained glass panel. This method incorporates the copper foil or lead came methods and adds a level of creativity and depth to any stained glass piece. 

 

24 hours of instructional time;  Cost: 225.00  Pre-requisite: Stained Glass-Quick and Easy, Stained Glass Quick and Easy - Lead Came, and at least one Intermediate Level Class.  Students must have their own tools, supplies and glass for their project.

 

Advanced Stained Glass - Repair and Restoration

 

Did you recently inherit a Tiffany style lamp that belonged to your grandparents and came with multiple pieces of broken glass or loose foil/lead.  Did you find that old panel you made 20 years ago and now its broken or bent.  Wondering what to do with them?  Come in and learn how to repair your stained glass window or lampshade. We will teach you how to do repairs on both copper foil pieces and leaded pieces and save you hundreds of dollars in the process!!  Work alongside our expert repair and restoration instructors and you learn all the ins and outs of repairing a stained glass panel, box or lampshade.  Students may need to work at home or book additional studio time between classes to complete a more ambitious project.

 

24 Hours of Instructional Time; Cost: $225.00  Pre-requiste: For a Copper Foil Repair class: Stained Glass - Quick and Easy and at least one Intermediate Level Class.  For a Lead repair class: Stained Glass - Quick and Easy - Copper Foil and Lead; at least one Intermediate Level class in Lead Came.   Students must have their own tools, glass and supplies.  Students must also have a stained glass panel or lamp of their own that needs repair.
